IOM Helsinki provides Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) services to asylum seekers and other migrants in Sweden in cooperation with the Swedish Migration Board (SMB) and other partners. The costs of the travel arrangements are invoiced to the relevant Swedish partner.
Migrants and/or their representatives may submit voluntary return applications directly to IOM Helsinki that will make travel arrangements and assist with issuance of travel documentation, as necessary. Asylum seekers returning voluntarily from Sweden may apply for reestablishment support from the SMB. Since 2003, IOM Helsinki has assisted more than 650 migrants to return voluntarily from Sweden under the AVR ad hoc programme. Activity Area
