IOM is an intergovernmental organization that works with migrants, governments, NGOs, and international organizations to address today’s complex migration challenges. IOM’s work is conducted through projects that endeavour to touch on every aspect of the Organization’s mandate and are the most tangible means of assisting migrants and governments. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. As of December 2011, IOM has 146 Member States (plus a further 98 observers including 13 states and 85 global and regional IGOs and NGOs) and more than 440 field locations in over 100 countries. Eight of the IOM offices are 'Missions with Regional Functions' (MRF) and support other IOM offices in their respective regions.
