How to participate
NB: IOM Helsinki and the MIDA FINNSOM Health project cannot guarantee that all applicants will be selected for participation in the project, or that selected candidates will be able to start their assignments on the precise date indicated in their application form.

If you are currently employed and are applying for participation in the project, IOM recommends that you do not request any leave from your employer until your MIDA assignment and schedule has been confirmed. IOM will not compensate any project participant for lost income due to late initiation of assignments.

Somali Professionals
IOM invites all experienced Somali professionals in Finland to apply for participation in the MIDA FINNSOM Health project. The following professional profiles are eligible to take part of the project:

Health Professionals:
  • Medical doctors
  • Mental health experts (Psychiatrists, Psychologists)
  • Dentists
  • Nurses
  • Midwives
  • Laboratory technicians
  • X-ray technicians
  • Physiotherapists
  • Medical engineers
  • Other health sector professionals

Administrative Support Professionals:
  • Administrators / HR Specialists
  • IT specialists
  • Development cooperation specialists / project managers
  • Curriculum developers and policy experts

All applicants will be considered on an individual bases, and selection will be based on proven qualifications, experience, and needs of host institutions. The final selection of all candidates will be done by a panel comprised of representatives from Finnish project partners, and in coordination with the host institutions. All selected candidates must be willing up uphold IOM’s Standards of Conduct.

Applications to the project may be submitted electronically by using a web-based form.

Candidates are advised to submit open applications to the project. This will allow IOM and its project partners to assess the pool of expertise available in the Finnish-Somali health community. Candidates may also apply directly to specific vacancies that will posted in the project website: http://www.iom.fi/MIDAvacancies

Important: All project participants must hold either Finnish citizenship or a permanent residence permit.
Membership in the Association of Somali Healthcare Professionals in the Nordic Countries (SOMHELP) is considered a valuable asset.


Finnish Professionals
Finnish professionals interested in participating in the project should apply in conjunction with a Finnish-Somali colleague. Primarily, health specialists will be considered for assignments in Somaliland and Puntland.

The application and selection process follows that of the Somali candidates.

Finnish Professionals interested in participating in the project can still apply even if they cannot initially send an application together with a Finnish-Somali colleague. IOM and its partners will seek to make links between Finnish and Finnish-Somali professionals throughout the project.
